Waistcoat Wednesday

I should do this more often… I love wearing suits. However, today I didn’t have enough time to suit up, so it’s one from the archives.

I have the full suit for this one. It’s from Burton if you’re fancying the same outfit.

BMI normal.

Whilst I don’t actually trust BMI as a way of indicating health, I do understand that it can be used carefully as a guide.

Today I weighed myself and at 86.8kg I now fit within the weight range of normal (although I’m still at the top end of the range).

I’m now fitting into 36″ waist trousers, including these rather amazing leather ones which look rather stunning if slightly dapper mixed in with this beautiful waistcoat.

…although this would be more my general office wear.

My Blue Suit

I recently shared a photo of my blue suit on Instagram (@nomenloony) and I’ve received quite a few nice comments about it.

The suit is one I’ve been looking for the perfect version of for years, but I’ve never found one with quite the right fabric or cut. Often the ones you see people wearing to parties are not good quality, or the fabric is not nice to touch.

It came out of a total accident though – a trip to Meadowhall, or more specifically Next, to buy a new suit after my weigh loss had left me with hardly any that fit. Next proved to be fruitless – all the nice suits were skinny fit.

I then tried M&S and found the cut and styling to be drab, and the prices ridiculous for what you were getting (especially considering they were made overseas using cheap labour).

Whilst walking past Burton I just decided to pop in. I wasn’t optimistic.

Turns out I was wrong! Their range was nice and my sizes were available.

I bought two suits. The bright blue one, and one with a lot more teal in it (that’s for a separate post).

The Blue Grey Suit

This one was bought from Matalan. I have a few of their suits as they are incredibly cheap (especially as when I wear them onstage I never buy the jacket – the most expensive part).

You can often buy them at the end of the season because the shops have run out of certain sizes of particular items and as such the prices can drop below £30 for a waistcoat and trousers.

On this occasion, though, I’ve lost weight an no longer had a full three piece suit which actually fit me so I bought all three pieces.

This one is a grey blue fabric. It’s not the best quality fabric but doesn’t crease easily in my suit bag when I’m carrying it to a gig – which is always a bonus.

It’s also a slim fit. Surprisingly, since losing a lot of weight I’ve found myself heading for slim fit as the cut is much more modern.

Leather to a wedding?

I was asked a few days ago if, should the right time and place arise, would I wear leather to a wedding?

Well I can tell you, it’s arisen thrice already! Well twice… The third involved latex!

Both events were in 2009, the first I wore leather jeans with a leather jacket…

Adam, a friend, was fascinated…

The second was a wedding up in the Northeast. This time it was rather nice pleated front leather trousers and a waistcoat… No jacket though.

I also had my sunset coloured Mohican at the time. Nobody messes with you when you’re over 6′ and have a Mohican!

The third event was in 2015… This the the latex jeans came out. Andy thought they were… Strange. But then I’m strange, so nothing new there.

So in answer to the question, of course I’d wear leather to a wedding… Or latex.

Perhaps next time I wear leather to a wedding I’ll go for a three piece… Hmm…

Two new suits!

As you probably know if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter (@nomenloony on both) I’ve been on a bit of a weight loss kick.

Since September last year I’ve lost 25kg in weight, starting at a rather hefty 113kg with a 50″ chest and 42″ waist, and looking like this:

To a rather svelte 38″ waist, with this general appearance…

There have been no miracle diets. No stupid low carb roles, no starvation. Just a massive cut down on the amount of fat I’m eating, and a little reduction in sugars. I’m not watching my weight as such; I’m just not being a dick.

The problem I’ve now had however, is my stage suits – of which I own rather a lot! I’ve had to buy new ones. The grey/blue one above being a very cheap but very nice intermediate suit from Matalan.

Last week then, I headed out to Meadowhall to get a new suit to add to the one above.

The problem, of course, with Meadowhall is the glitz and the glam of the place get you, and then you become spend blind. Indeed, by the time i had done I had the two beautiful suits below and £270 less in the bank. Even with a big sale on! The darker suit was 50% off (but the material is absolutely gorgeous!).

20180518_155427-017794302755889459113.jpegAlong with the new latex outfit I also bought a few weeks ago which are much smaller, I’ve now made a big commitment to not being fat again. I don’t think I can afford to! Suits and latex are very pricey.

I’m now a 36 to 38 waist (36 if the trousers are a regular fit, 38 if they are slim fit) and I’m getting quite comfortable with my size now. I think I’ll probably try and get down to 80kg and stay around there.
